Engineer Senior Data Engineer at Ready.net

Senior Data Engineer designs and maintains scalable data infrastructure, builds Airflow DAGs and dbt pipelines, and integrates LLM workflows across multi-state broadband programs on AWS/GCP.

Senior Posted about 18 hours ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Ready is expanding its data engineering team to support rapid growth across our broadband infrastructure monitoring platform and the BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment) program. We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who thrives in complex pipeline environments, is comfortable across AWS and GCP, and can bring structure and reliability to large-scale government data programs.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Data and a cross-functional team to build, optimize, and maintain the data infrastructure that powers multi-state broadband programs. This is a hands-on engineering role — expect to spend most of your time building Airflow DAGs, designing data models and making data move reliably at scale.

About your role at Ready ⚡️

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to understand requirements and translate them into the right technical architecture — balancing cost, performance, and long-term maintainability

  • Evaluate and recommend data tools, frameworks, and infrastructure choices with a pragmatic, product-first mindset

  • Contribute to roadmap discussions and help the team make informed build-vs-buy decisions

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable data infrastructure on AWS (S3, Athena, RDS/PostgreSQL, ECS, Lambda, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch)

  • Own data lake and warehouse architecture — partitioning strategies, storage optimization, and data lifecycle management

  • Build and maintain production-grade Apache Airflow DAGs for ingestion, transformation, and export workflows

  • Ensure observability across the data platform — monitoring, alerting, and fast incident resolution

  • Build and maintain robust DBT pipelines with data quality checks and well-structured data modeling

  • Design and maintain robust database schemas to support multi-state, multi-tenant program data

  • Write and optimize SQL queries across PostgreSQL, Redshift and Athena for analytical and operational workloads

  • Develop reusable data models, utilities, and shared Python packages that raise the bar for the whole team

  • Design data models and infrastructure for large-scale time-series and event-based data management at scale

  • Implement efficient ingestion, storage, and retrieval patterns for high-frequency temporal datasets

  • Work with vector databases to support AI-powered features and semantic search capabilities

  • Integrate LLM workflows into ELT pipelines using AWS Bedrock, LangChain, and related frameworks

  • Build AI-assisted data comparison, validation, and enrichment pipelines that run reliably in production

  • Experience with MLflow, deploying production level ML pipelines

  • Stay current on the evolving AI/ML tooling landscape and bring relevant innovations to the team

  • Design and build automated data QA systems to validate quality, completeness, and consistency across datasets

  • Implement cleansing and reconciliation routines for complex multi-source ingestion flows

  • Proactively monitor pipelines and resolve issues before they reach downstream consumers or clients

  • Mentor junior and mid-level data engineers — through code reviews, pair programming, and architectural guidance

  • Help establish team standards for code quality, testing, and documentation

  • Foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement on the data team

A bit about you 🥇

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience, with a track record of owning and operationally supporting production systems end-to-end

  • Proven ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and make pragmatic architecture decisions that balance cost and performance

  • Strong proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL, Athena/Presto) and Python; you write production-quality code

  • Deep hands-on experience with AWS data services (S3, Athena, RDS, ECS, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch)

  • Experience with Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools in production environments

  • Experience with large-scale time-series, event-based, or streaming data systems

  • Experience with version control with Github/Subversion/GitLab/Mercurial

  • Familiarity with vector databases and LLM integration patterns (LangChain, AWS Bedrock, or similar)

  • Experience building data quality frameworks or automated validation systems

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute to team culture

  • Excellent communication skills — you can make complex infrastructure decisions legible to non-engineers

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and make decisions following first-principle

  • Comfortable working across multiple timezone

  • Experience managing data for SaaS platforms is a plus

  • Experience with large-scale spatiotemporal data pipelines (PostGIS, spatial indexing, tiling) is a plus

About Ready 🚀

  • Creative problem solvers approaching a legacy industry with a new point of view

  • Humble but ambitious, knowledgeable but curious, persistent but not obnoxious

  • Concise and effective in written and spoken communication

  • Comfortable working remotely

  • One team, one dream

About what you get…

  • Competitive salary plus meaningful equity upside; salary range is $190,000-$240,000

  • Competitive (and ever expanding) benefits for employees and dependents

  • Opportunities to learn and grow – all things startups

  • A chance to play a role in defining the roadmap as we pursue a bold vision and and a big goal

  • Work from anywhere you want, as long as you can get great internet (and your work here at Ready helps make this true in more places).

  • To get away - we all convene 2-3x / year for [optional, encouraged] retreats

  • We’re actively shaping our benefits program: have a say in which benefits matter to you

  • The charter to realize a market that is set to receive $65 billion in grant funding across the United States

Dune’s Vision

Values and working at Dune

About the role

Data Foundation owns how blockchain data enters Dune, how it is represented and how it’s delivered externally. This is a role that involves thinking about large distributed data systems, recognising traditional scaling patterns and software lifecycle pitfalls, and is ideal for anyone passionate about those topics.

You will be the engineer we hand ambiguous product requirements to, and will be comfortable coming back with a design, a sequence, and a set of tasks the team can pick up as well as building the hardest parts yourself.

In this role you will

  • Turn product requirements into technical requirements: model the domain, define the interfaces and the workflows, and navigate trade-offs

  • Break large problems into work other engineers can own, and sequence it so we ship something useful early

  • Drive high-impact architectural decisions across the data platform, and own components end to end from design through production

  • Work across our stack, mainly Go, Kotlin, Rust and Python where they fit, choosing the right tool rather than the familiar one

  • Design for correctness and performance under real volume: large-scale ingestion, distributed processing, and data lake storage

  • Raise the bar on design reviews, testing, and how the team breaks work down

  • Mentor engineers by example, in a fully distributed team

You might be a great fit if

  • You are a strong generalist with real computer science fundamentals, and you use them to adapt quickly to new technologies and problem spaces

  • You reason from first principles: you make assumptions explicit, identify the constraints and invariants that matter, and derive the solution rather than reaching for a familiar pattern.

  • You use computer science fundamentals as practical tools. You have designed and shipped distributed data systems, making their contracts, state transitions, invariants, and failure modes explicit. You know their fault models and scaling weaknesses

  • You are comfortable with ambiguity : you will talk to product, to customers, and to the team, then commit to a scope and defend it

  • You use AI tools well enough that they have changed how you work, you understand their failure modes and dislike ai-slop.

  • You communicate clearly in writing and get the best out of a distributed team

Not required, but a plus

  • Experience with data lakes and formats such as Parquet, Iceberg or Deltalog

  • Experience at a company where the data is the product

Perks & Benefits

  • A competitive salary and equity package 🚀. Both salary and equity is top 25% of companies in the space

  • Our employee equity scheme has world-class employee-friendly terms with a heavily discounted strike price (~90%) and a 10-year exercise window

  • 5 weeks PTO + local public holidays (that can be swapped to suit you) 🏖

  • A fully remote-first approach 🧑‍💻 within a distributed team with flexible working hours; you structure your own day

  • Say goodbye to meeting overload! We believe in a healthy mix of async and sync work, so you can focus on what truly matters—no more wasted time on endless meetings!

  • Good health is important, so we offer private medical insurance, dental & vision as standard🩺

  • We believe in paid parental leave 👶 to help you celebrate this important milestone, transition to your new life, and bond with your new baby. We offer 16 weeks to primary and 6 weeks to secondary caregivers, fully paid. Plus a 2-week part-time phased return at full pay to help you get used to your new (and slightly more complex!) schedule

  • Quarterly offsites in various exciting locations as a company or team to connect, work together and have fun (so far in Tuscany 🇮🇹 Berlin 🇩🇪 Austria 🇦🇹 and Athens 🇬🇷).

  • On top of this 👆each person gets a yearly travel allowance to connect and co-work with someone or a team of people for a few days.

  • An allowance for your at-home setup, to ensure you are happy, comfortable and productive. If you prefer a local co-working space, we’ll pay for your desk.

  • Work with some of the best people you’ll ever get to meet!

  • And of course, you get some awesome Dune swag! ✌️😎

What this role involves

At PrizePicks, we are the fastest-growing sports company in North America, as recognized by Inc. 5000. As the leading platform for Daily Fantasy Sports, we cover a diverse range of sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, and Esports titles like League of Legends and Counter-Strike. Our team of over 550 employees thrives in an inclusive culture that values individuals from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their level of sports fandom. Ready to reimagine the DFS industry together?

Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Overview

At PrizePicks, we are changing the game in daily fantasy sports. We are a passionate team of innovators dedicated to creating a best-in-class experience for our members. Our engineering team builds and scales the platform that powers our explosive growth—from our consumer-facing app to the services that support millions of members. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Social Experience team and help us continue to build the future of fantasy sports.

Job Summary

The Social Experience team builds the backend systems behind profiles, feeds, and other social features that help members create an identity, connect with others, and discover and share activity across PrizePicks.

In this role, you will work across mature Rails systems and a growing set of Go and other purpose-built services. You will evolve existing capabilities, define clear service boundaries, and design new backend systems that can scale with our social experiences.

You will own complex work from technical design through production, translate ambiguous product goals into executable plans, influence technical direction, and elevate the engineers around you. This role is for someone who is comfortable extending a mature Rails codebase while helping shape the services that will support the next generation of social experiences at PrizePicks.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build backend services: Architect and implement performant, scalable, and reliable backend systems, primarily in Rails and in Go where appropriate, supporting high-throughput workloads, complex business logic, and evolving social experiences.
  • Evolve service boundaries: Help identify and extract well-scoped capabilities from existing Rails systems, designing clear interfaces and incremental migration paths that preserve reliability and backward compatibility.
  • Connect product and data systems: Design reliable data flows between backend services and warehouses such as BigQuery and Snowflake, making derived data available without adding latency or reliability risk to member-facing experiences.
  • Own technical delivery: Lead complex initiatives from discovery and technical design through implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration. Break work into executable pieces, clarify sequencing and ownership, and keep risks and dependencies visible.
  • Drive cross-team execution: Partner closely with Product, Design, QA, Data, Platform, and engineers across domains to resolve ambiguity, coordinate dependencies, and move shared work forward.
  • Drive system reliability: Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve the resilience of backend systems under load.
  • Define technical direction: Propose and drive architectural decisions for your team’s services, evaluating tradeoffs and communicating recommendations clearly.
  • Mentor and elevate: Provide hands-on mentorship to engineers on your team through code reviews, pairing, design discussions, and technical guidance.
  • Improve engineering practices: Raise the bar for code quality, testing, observability, deployment, and operational ownership.
  • Participate in on-call rotation: Share responsibility for production incidents, contributing to root cause analysis and long-term reliability improvements.

What You Have

Experience:

  • 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time building production Ruby on Rails applications
  • Proven track record of owning and delivering complex, multi-component features in a team environment
  • Experience designing and operating backend systems that handle significant scale and complexity
  • Experience coordinating technical work across team boundaries and proactively managing dependencies, risks, and changing requirements

Technical Skills:

  • Expert-level Ruby on Rails proficiency — you understand the framework deeply, write idiomatic Ruby, and know when to leverage or work around Rails conventions
  • Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning at scale
  • Solid understanding of API design — RESTful services, serialization strategies, and versioning
  • Experience with background job processing (Sidekiq or similar) and asynchronous workflows
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation
  • Understanding of observability practices — logging, metrics, tracing
  • Working knowledge of Go — our backend includes significant Go services, and cross-stack capability is valued at this level

Working Style:

  • You turn ambiguous problems into clear plans, make progress visible, and proactively surface decisions, risks, and dependencies
  • You enjoy collaborative problem-solving and are effective at bringing people together, incorporating different perspectives, and building alignment
  • You communicate clearly and consistently, translating technical decisions for engineers, partners, and non-technical stakeholders
  • You balance deep technical execution with planning, mentorship, reviews, and the broader needs of the team
  • You are comfortable operating autonomously in a distributed engineering organization while staying closely connected to teammates and partners

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience leading the extraction of capabilities from a monolith or evolving systems toward well-defined services
  • Experience building social or relationship-driven systems such as feeds, follows, live chat, reactions, activity streams, or recommendations
  • Experience designing stat-driven profile systems, including aggregations, rollups, and derived metrics at scale
  • Experience building social systems for rapid experimentation through feature flags, ranking experiments, or growth loops
  • Experience designing graph-shaped data models and fan-out strategies at scale
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams and domains while driving shared initiatives to completion
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools across the development lifecycle — coding, planning, scoping, and code review
  • Experience integrating AI tooling into engineering workflows to accelerate team productivity
